How the move works

You start it from our portal, and we finish it with you. Each step is on your service page once you have paid.

Choose your size and pay. Tell us your edition and calls at once, as your Admin Console shows them.
Upload your backup. A full backup from your Admin Console, and its password, if it has one, in our portal.
Switch the old system off. Or stop it in your 3CX Portal if it is on Hosted by 3CX. Your partner changes nothing.
Press Start the move. Your new server is built from your backup, at the same address.
We check it with you. Your login, your phones and your apps, then it is handed over.

Your phones are off from the moment you switch the old system off until the new one answers, so pick a quiet hour.

Migration to 3CX Cloud Hosting

Once per system. Our checks, help with phones and apps, and a cutover call.

The migration is free with yearly 3CX Cloud Hosting. With monthly hosting it is KES 5,000, once, excl. VAT (16%).

Your licence is not on this bill. It keeps renewing with whoever sells it to you, or through us if you choose. A proforma invoice holds its price for 30 days.

How moving partner works

Either way, we host it the same.

Before you start

Your system is on 3CX v20. A v18 system needs Update 9 and the move to v20 first.
You can switch the old system off for the move, or stop it in your 3CX Portal if it is on Hosted by 3CX. Your partner does not need to change anything.
A full backup under 95 MB, taken with Backup Now and “Include local/temporary recordings” left unticked. Copy your recordings separately if you want to keep them.
Your 3CX address stays as it is. Your own domain needs 3CX Pro or AI, and we issue its certificate.
Tell your SIP trunk provider the new public IP. The portal shows it before you start.

Desk phones at an office: the SBC

The apps reach the system on their own, wherever they are. Desk phones at your office need a little help to reach a system that sits somewhere else, and there are two ways to give it:

Up to about ten phones: models that carry their own connection, which 3CX calls router phones. 3CX names particular Yealink, Fanvil and Snom models that can, and we tell you which before you buy.
More than that: the 3CX SBC, a session border controller. It is a small service on a Raspberry Pi 5, a Windows PC or a Debian Linux machine at that office, and it carries every phone's calls to the system, getting round the firewall and network problems that make desk phones unreliable.

The SBC is included in every edition we sell. It needs a fixed address on the office network and has to stay switched on, and we set it up with the phones.

It connects the phones to the system; it is not a phone system itself. When that office's internet line drops, the phones behind it stop, calls between them included, until the line is back, while anyone on the app over mobile data carries on.

Questions

Do I have to change partner?

No. We host your key whoever renews it.

Will my 3CX address change?

No. Your system keeps the address it has today, a 3CX address or your own domain.

We use our own domain. What about the certificate?

We issue it and renew it for you. You add two records to your domain's DNS, and the portal checks them. Your own domain needs 3CX Pro or AI.

What if I pick the wrong size?

If your key is larger, we charge the hosting difference for the time you have paid, and the server grows once it is paid. If it is smaller, nothing is refunded, and the price follows your key from your next renewal.

I am on Hosted by 3CX. Can I move?

Yes. Download your backup, then stop the hosted system in your 3CX Portal: stopping deletes it. 3CX's own hosting charge is removed at your licence's renewal, by whoever sells it to you.

How long are the phones off?

From your switch-off until the new system answers.
